Micro-Media Production COMPETITIONS

Teams of learners will use micro-media (digital photography, HD video, cell phone camera) technology coupled with music and verse to create a short (1-5 min.):

  • African/Diaspora heritage audio project featuring top quality local storytellers, musicians, singers, etc. OR
  • Music Video (any genre) that tell stories about little known or forgotten historical facts about positive cross cultural interactions between diverse cultures. Sound track must feature contemporary and "old school" music and storytelling voice overs. OR
  • Script for film, video or stage play (any length)

In addition to prizes, the best projects will be professionally produced and shared with a global network of schools and libraries during February 2014. If selected, your project will become one of the key discussions presented on this site to ur network of Sister Schools, Cities and Libraries.

You MUST be part of a Community of Practical Engagement to enter our contests. Entry costs you nothing when you complete our FREE on-line micro-media production class in audio and visual communication techniques. This is to ensure that entries are qualitatively competitive.

Educators and media professionals are invited to collaborate and produce quality media to enhance lesson plans through our EDUCATION competitions.

HIP HOP & OLD SCHOOL MUSIC & HISTORY RE-MIX CONTEST

Poets, musicians, storytellers, performers, playwrights, filmmakers and other artists are invited to participate in a contest that offers cash prizes and recording opportunities for works that illustrate the types of historical facts, people and events encountered on our websites.

Winners will be invited to perform at the first annual Kilimanjaro Festival of Music, Arts and Culture that will be held in July 2014 in the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro. This is your opportunity to use your creative energy for promoting global enlightenment through music and other arts. Amount of prizes will be determined by the recording labels and media houses that are engaged. Watch for the formal announcement on this site in Fall 2013.

We are seeking digital authors who can contribute to the expansion of the GEO AFRICA project by collecting and submitting photos, videos & data about:

  • Egypt: Cairo, Alexandria, Upper Egypt: Luxor, Aswan, Abu Simbel, Sinai Desert, Sharm el-Sheikh
  • Kenya: Nairobi, Malindi, Mombasa, Lamu
  • Tanzania: Zanzibar, Ngorongoro Crater, Dar es Salaam, Mbeya, Bukoba, Tanga, Mafia Island, Makonde, Pemba, Olduvai Gorge, Arusha, Kilimanjaro

Participants earn how to build various multimedia learning components as their designated African Memory Community of Practical Engagement explores connections to Africa found in:
