On Line Africa CyberAc@demy provides multiple media education and skills training for the Information Age in order to facilitate the development of global professional and participatory media workforces needed to supply world and domestic markets for quality, in-depth and balanced visual, audio and written information about the new Africa. In partnership with LINKS Multimedia Foundation, SIBUKA FM Radio, TV SIBUKA and our network of participating African NGOs, government and business operations, we provide recent media training program graduates with the on-the-job training that is required for even entry-level media positions.

On Line Africa CyberAc@demy courseware for teaching photography, video and graphics has been used at the University of Maryland, Trinity University of Washington, D.C., South Africa’s Vista University and the American University in Cairo since 1998.

We are planning to launch Africa’s first on-line university credit courses in photography and photojournalism through a consortium of African, Middle Eastern and American universities led by Africa's leaders in quality accredited distance education. Instruction will be in English, Arabic, Kiswahili and French. The courses and dynamic virtual textbooks are designed to allow other language versions to be produced quickly using our "remixable" courseware. Plans will soon be announced for a Masters Degree program in Media Management and a certificat program in Health Communication in partnership with our collaborating universities in Africa, North America, Europe and Australia.

Multimedia training and periodic production competitions are available for professionals and non-professionals who can help the OLAfrica Knowledge Foundation serve consumers who wish to acquire quality photos and video produced from non-western points of view.

FIELD STUDY in EAST AFRICA for ACADEMIC CREDIT from the American University in Cairo Journalism and Mass Communication Department and the Open University of Tanzania Journalism and Media Studies Department. The Summer 2011 program "Converging Media: Communicating Across Borders with Words, Pictures and Sounds" explores the social and environmental landscapes of Tanzania and Kenya as foreign students generate on-line news and information projects in collaboration with students from African universities. Students will perform as mentors to students at the President Barack Obama Secondary School (Kogelo, Kenya) as they create a series of "community profiles" using the new media tools provided by the OLAfrica Knowledge Foundation. These writing and visual communication courses will be taught by AUC Professors Robert Jones, II and Doris Jones whose media credits include National Geographic Magazine, Chicago Tribune, Time Magazine, Paris Match Magazine, Washington Post, New York Times, Rhet Herring, Twen and others. Credits earned are fully transferable to accredited universities.

CORE COURSES:

Photography and Photojournalism (Digital and Film) are modular (web, print and blended)) courses that stress technical, aesthetic and rhetorical control of the photographic image. Many current students and recent graduates are helping us produce segments for several revolutionary media projects that shed fresh light on African and Middle Eastern life, culture and history.

Graphic Communication I and II are web-assisted courses that have beendeveloped in order to prepare qualified multi-skilled media production personnel using real world training scenarios. Our groundbreaking magazine, television and web “e-zine” projects called Treasures of Africa and the Middle East “T.A.M.E.” are the activities around which these courses are built and taught. Students actively participate in producing multi-format prototypes of the magazine in collaboration with professional and community-based writers, reporters, designers, video producers and photographers from many African, Middle Eastern and other cultures.

What Every Editor Needs to Know about Pictures is a picture editing course for image-based media projects of all types.

Visual Literacy and Rhetoric courses are being developed jointly with the American University in Cairo (Journalism and Mass Communication; Composition and Rhetoric; Performing and Visual Arts), Open University of Tanzania and the African Virtual University.
